About

Undergraduate Researcher Investigating Parkinson's Disease

Hello! My name is Austin Shute, and I am an undergraduate student in my final year at the University of Florida. I am a double major in Microbiology and Psychology and have a special interest in the field of neuroscience. I intend to pursue a medical degree after I graduate with the goal of becoming either a neurologist or a neurosurgeon. For the past two years I have worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Lavoie Lab, where we work to understand neurodegenerative diseases on a molecular level.

Research Interests

  • Neurodegenerative diseases, including PD and Alzheimer's

  • Mitochondrial disfunction
